Ingredients
Bitter gourd – 250 gms
Carrot – 250 gms
Turmeric – 1 tspn
Salt to taste
Grated coconut – ½ cup
Green chilli – 4
Ginger – 1 small piece
Shallot – 4
Tamarind water – 2 tbsp
Mustard – ½ tspn
Preparation
- Cut bitter gourd into small and thin pieces and put it in salt water. Cut carrot also into small pieces.
- Mix grated coconut, finely chopped green chillies, ginger, shallots, tamarind water, salt and vegetables.
- Heat the oil and splatter mustard and add the mixture. Let it cook. Sprinkle some water if you feel its sticking to the pan.
- Once cooked serve it with rice or roti.

Papaya-Moong Thoran
Ingredients
½ cup of Moong
1 cup raw papaya grated
½ tspn Turmeric
4 Shallots
2 Garlic
4 Green chilli
Salt to taste
1tbsp of Coconut oil
½ tspn of Mustard
Curry leaves
¼ tspn of Jeera
Preparation
- Cook moong but it should get mashed.
- Grind grated coconut, turmeric, shallot, garlic, green chilli and salt together. Don’t make a paste of it. Just grind it coarsely.
- Heat the oil and splatter mustard and jeera. Add curry leaves and the grounded items.
- Add the cooked moong and grated papaya and let it cook.
- Once cooked serve it in bowl and garnish it with little grated coconut.
Cheera-Dal Thoran
Ingredients
Cheera – A bunch
Dal – half cup
Grated coconut – quarter coconut
Coconut oil – 1tbsn
Mustard – 1tspn
Jeera – ½ tspn
Green Chilli – 4 small
Shallots – 4
Ginger – 1 tspn
Curry Leaves
Turmeric – ½ tspn
Salt – to taste
Preparation
- Par boil the dal.
- Cut cheera finely
- Mix cheera, grated coconut, green chilli, cut shallots, finely chopped ginger, curry leaves, turmeric and salt.
- Heat the oil, splutter the mustard and jeera.
- Add the cheera mix and cook.
- Add the dal, once cheera is cooked. Mix it well and remove from fire.

Beans-Carrot Thoran
Ingredients
French Beans – 250 gms
Carrot – 200 gms
Onion – 1 medium sized
Green Chilli – 2 small
Salt – to taste
Fat – 1 tbsn
Mustard – 1 tspn
Grated coconut – 100gms or quarter coconut
Preparation
- Cut the beans small and thin.
- Grate carrots and slice the onions small
- Mix the vegetables, onion, cut green chillies, salt and grated coconut
- Heat the pan, pour the fat and splatter the mustard
- Add the mixed vegetable and cook on low flame
